Empty Hands, Open Arms: Success and Conservation in 320 pages

We love having a good book on our summer reading and Empty Hands, Open Arms is a perfect addition to your list. The book follows the travels of writer Deni Bechard into the rain forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo as he interviews both American and Congolese conservationists. These critical interviews detail their wildly successful methods for saving the world’s second largest rainforest and one of man’s closest genetic relatives, the Bonobos ape. We asked Deni a few questions and he has generously offered 3 copies for Raintees to give away.

 Empty Hands, Open Arms

Why did you write it?

“I wrote Empty Hands, Open Arms because I wanted to look at conservation stories that actually offer solutions. So many books about the environment focus on the damage that has been done and convey the magnitude of destruction, but they offer few concrete solutions for making change. When I went to the Congo, I was looking for stories that can change our perceptions about the natural and teach us how we can work together to save both our rain forests and ourselves.”

— Deni Bechard

Pulitzer-Prize winner Robert Coles describes the book as “a needed lesson for us who live elsewhere to ponder, take to heart.”

David Suzuki writes that Empty Hands, Open Arms “provides a surprisingly uplifting story about a radically different and successful conservation program.” Click below to see the trailer for the book that is breaking ground and holding nothing back.

To spread the word and share all of Deni Bechard’s amazing experiences, Raintees will be giving away 3 copies of Empty Hands, Open Arms.
