Recently our team fell in love with an incredible business based in Mammoth Lakes, California that we had to share with all of you.
Founded in 2011 by Mimi Kurz, a snowboarder from Chicago turned baker, Mimi’s Cookie Bar is a bakery that creates delicious organic and all natural goods. After getting a few pro-athletes on board with her start up, Mimi and her gang (including her brother, husband, and two good friends) are now the proud owners of one of the most successful bakeries in the Mammoth Lake area.
It’s pretty clear that these young athletes can successfully divide their time between creating scrumptious desserts and maintaining healthy, active lifestyles…seeing that an Olympian, a famous backcountry skier, 12-year-old snowboarding Internet sensation, and other talented athletes are among the team members at Mimi’s. Though it may seem like an ambitious endeavor for a bunch of snowboarders and skiers, this fully functioning bakery offers hundreds of different delicious baked goods. Even better? They can deliver them right to your door.
Mimi’s bakes the typical cookies, cakes, brownies and cupcakes that most bakeries make, but manages to mix it up by offering unique flavors like their Salted Caramel Bacon Brownie, Butterscotch Coconut Blueberry Cookie, Apple Cinnamon Bacon Cake, Chocolate Zucchini Cupcake, and Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Additionally, they offer a “create a cookie” option, homemade frozen yogurt and ice cream, plenty of vegan and gluten free options, and even dog cookies for your favorite pooch. Mimi’s also makes “moreos” (their healthy version of an Oreo), sauces like Espresso Vanilla Bean Almond Butter, and pie in a jar. If your taste buds aren’t salivating yet, check out their bakery menu for even more options.
Every step of their process is sustainable, from their ingredients to their packaging. They get their ingredients from local organic farms and fair trade sources, and they list all of their ingredients for each product online for everyone to see. By listing their ingredients Mimi’s manages to create a transparent aspect of their business; a trait that’s becoming more popular and widely respected these days as consumers wish to know what exactly they’re putting in their bodies. Their bakery boxes tend to use 25-30% less trees than normal boxes, and the trees that are used are sourced from SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified forests. Other eco-friendly products used in Mimi’s bakery include their cups, spoons, and bags.
If you’re unable to make the trip to visit Mimi’s in person, you can place an order by either using their website or calling the bakery. While they don’t ship cakes and cupcakes yet, you can still get Mimi’s delivered directly to your door. So treat yourself this spring and try one of Mimi’s fabulous, natural desserts!
